Who is Jeanette Prather?

I’ve been in NYC for two years choreographing, teaching and performing various dance, burlesque and circus pieces at Silhouette Dance Studio, SHOCKra Studio and Trapeze School New York. I came from two years working as the choreographer/director of two different resorts, Club Med and Club Maeva, from multiple locations in Mexico, the Turks & Caicos Islands and Florida.

Prior to this, I was finishing my bachelor’s degree in dance, journalism, French and international studies at California State University, Long Beach. I was accepted as an intern to Dance magazine my senior year, jumped on a plane and flew across the country two days after graduation.

I started working as the copy and production editor for Movmnt Magazine, while writing two books that I would later publish, “Vital Energy” and Flicker. I was also freelancing intermittently for Beautiful/Decay, Ehow, E.L.M., L.A. Splash, Move, Suite 101 and Valley Scene magazines.

While preparing for graduate life, I was the managing editor for the campus magazine called DIG, and DJing a radio show on campus called L’Ambiance under the alias Jazzerina Jaye. That year, I was also the choreographer for an American Basketball Association team, The Buzz’s dance team, the Honeybees.

This was after I had spent a busy year writing, dancing and soul-searching in Aix-en-Provence, France. I published articles in French for IEFEEXpress and Ladies Room magazines before moving to Italy for a dance intensive with ProDanza Italia/USA.

Before I lived in Europe, I was the city editor for the CSULB’s newspaper, The Daily Forty-Niner, while teaching dance class every night at 24 Hour Fitness locations all over Southern California. I also interned at Fox News Channel in L.A. to better understand broadcast media.

I danced in SuperBowl XXXVII’s Pregame and Half-time shows, as well as a runway fashion show for L.A. Models while still in high school. At this time, I was also writing and editing for my school’s newspaper, The Gangplank.
